BACK TO TAHRIR

Less than two weeks before the first free parliamentary elections in the history of Egypt were to take place, Egyptians once again took to the streets. What unified the demonstrators was the demand of a transfer from military rule to a civil state. For weeks, Tahrir was again filled with people from all walks of life.

But, what started as a peaceful protest, was soon met with tear gas and rubber bullets from riot police. More than 40 demonstrators were killed and several thousands injured between November 19 and December 2 2011. These photos capture some of the things that happened on and around Tahrir.
